Holiday Sales Are a Gift in Itself

So, for marketers, now more than ever, there’s no time to procrastinate. In fact, there are only 25 days between Black Friday and Christmas in 2013, whereas there were 31 days between the two holidays last year, according to ShopperTrak

Black Friday, note the word Black rather than Good Friday, starts off the official eat till your stuffed, shop till you drop season.

It is time to shop, buy and eat-out till one is so overfed as to be bloated from the season.

Maybe, just maybe, for a few whom God will call, they will heed and leave it all behind. And with a foretaste of heaven’s joy never look back once they turn their backs on the world and it’s ways. (Hint: don’t expect your friends to applaud.)

Here is a little commerce lesson as we venture out into deep waters with Jesus:

He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”

For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”

So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (Luke 5:3-11)

Jesus blessed Peter with so many fish that his nets begin to break. Peter had hit the mother-load of a fish catch in Roman times and could have himself a nice little nest egg to retire on.

However, and every true Christian has a however, Peter, rather than count off the fish falsely calling upon the blessing of God in his life – like so many do today – the abundance worked what God intended. It drove Peter to his knees in humility. Peter felt the sting of guilt from his sins to such a depth that he begged Jesus to “Go away…”.

Again, Peter tells Jesus to “Go away…” and when Jesus refuses Peter goes away from his new found riches, family business, and friends.

Wait, think about that. Peter is too ashamed because of his sins to accept Jesus. Man alive, when was the last time you saw that in church.

Jesus answered in so many words, “Leave the wealth, leave your family business, leave your goals and come follow Me.” And Peter did, right then and there.

  • 401k – left behind
  • “fun” and parties- left behind
  • health insurance – left behind
  • family and friends – left behind
  • planned out future for the unknown – left behind
  • sinning, guilt, shame, impurity and remorse – left behind

Aw, for such a present from the Holy Spirit in today’s Holiday Season 2017 to be given to God. Now that is the gift of life worth unwrapping.

If you hear God calling you, now, yes right now, pull up your boats and walk away from it all to follow Jesus.

Happy Holidays!

Bonus:

It is amazing how women, young girls, and even children are lied to by Target.

Note well what Barbie is thankful for, along with Ken, of course, being a love-sick child in idolatry worship of Barbie. Thus Target muddies love and marriage in one quick advertising blurp of a burp.

What misery will be the end result can be apprehended by walking out one’s front door and examining the ever downward spiral of American society.
