Superbowl 2017

“I want to be a pastor in a high school,” Foles said Thursday. “It’s on my heart. I took a leap of faith last year and signed up to take classes at seminary. I wanted to continue to learn and challenge my faith. It’s a challenge because you are writing papers that are biblically correct. You want to impact people’s hearts.” – Nick Foles

Pattern of the World

Cultural Christianity at it’s worst …or best depending on the renewal, or lack of renewal that has taken place in your mind.

  • “The reason I decided to come back is I’ve loved the game of football since I was a kid, I loved playing sports, I loved being part of a team” – Nick Foles
  • “The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” – Jesus
  • “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” – Paul, preacher of holiness (Galatians 2:20)

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

That said, today’s point is what goads are you kicking against. After all a few “Christians” had to kick against the goads of God to watch Superbowl 2017.

How many there who think they are doing the will of God, giving God glory for Superbowl when all the while opposing Jesus to His face.

We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ (Acts 26:14-15)

Blessed are those who when confronted with a goad or two ask “Who are you, Lord?” rather than kicking against them.

Many, many need to ask who Jesus really is or what Christianity is honestly about.

What are the goads God is placing in your life that you keep kicking against?

Goads are small obstacles of righteousness that God sends in opposition to a person’s course of life.

Usually individuals just kick them aside, often with great difficulty as God is very persistent in His loving warnings.

Bonus Wisdom:

Sound Doctrine Church when it existed meet for worship at 1:30 pm Sunday afternoon. Kinda took the fun out of Superbowls but hey, nothing, and I do mean nothing compares to the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

At least for those who have learned to love righteousness.

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, (Romans 14:17)

Uh, not belly belief but obedient belief.

Foles — not Tom Brady — has the highest passer rating in postseason history for quarterbacks who’ve thrown at least 75 passes. Foles has completed 72 of 96 passes for 793 yards, with five touchdowns and no interceptions in three games for a 116.4 passer rating.

“It took a lot more faith to come back and play than it would’ve to go in the other direction,” Foles said. “Either way would’ve been fine. Either way, I would’ve trusted in God. I would’ve done something else and glorified God in that instance.

“The reason I decided to come back is I’ve loved the game of football since I was a kid, I loved playing sports, I loved being part of a team, and I knew as a person that the more growth I’ve had and the more opportunity I would have to glorify God and trust in him would be to go back and play football.”
