Valentine’s Day Chocolate / Not So Sweet

Valentine’s Day Chocolate / Not So Sweet

So it’s clear now that the chocolate industry is funding studies that tell us chocolate is good for us, and the media are picking up on these types of headlines. Which is all well and good if chocolate is actually good for us, but (to my mother’s enormous dismay) it’s not, as independent evaluations have concluded.”

So this Valentine’s Day (or Thursday), you should go enjoy some delicious chocolate (I know I will), but just make sure you aren’t being fooled into thinking it is actually good for you.

That the chocolate business lied to make a buck, no shock to my tastebuds that favor around 70% dark chocolate.

But what my body, soul, spirit, and mind rejoice in is God’s cleansing fires that produce truth in the inmost places.

Not superficial truth, not convenient truth, not comfortable truth, not people-pleasing truth, not self-serving truth, not favoritism truth, not an aspect of truth, not two-sides to every story truth, but the truth that is the Truth. The Truth taught, driven and rebuked into my secret heart. Now, that is sweet honey indeed: How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Psalm 119:103)

You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart. (Psalm 51:6)

This is why Jesus always taught in parables: Jesus said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to others I speak in parables, so that ‘looking they may not perceive, and listening they may not understand.” (Luke 8:10)

Unless you desire, or desire to desire, the Truth in your inward place, please, I highly suggest you not pick up your cross to follow Jesus. Because the Truth is not a choice between milk and dark chocolate.

“Well, over 20 years ago Mars Inc. (think M&M’S and Snickers) started the Mars Center for Cocoa Health Science dedicated to “leading scientific research to help advance the understanding of cocoa flavanols and their potential health benefits.””

“No. As Vox reported in August, hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific papers have come out of the Mars funding – and funny enough, almost every single study has resulted in favorable conclusions on the health benefits of chocolate and cocoa, the plant chocolate is made from.”
